Gagets And Memorials

I made another couple of thimble holders; the small one has a felt roll of applique pins inside it for my scissors fob.  The big one has two of my favorite thimbles and a couple of needles in my needle grabber.

On Memorial Day we remembered our parents.  Erin, Me, and Alice here at our Mom and Dad's grave (Grand Parents in Erin's case).

While we were there we went by the old homestead--The people who bought it are taking care of it nicely.

This year Hubby's Mom was remembered--she passed away almost a year ago.
Hubby and Erin here.  While we were there we ran into Erin's pediatrician's nurse from when Erin was little and she recognized Erin.  It's a small world.

Apron Pickyness

Here's the sewing project I made for our daughter.  Although it turned out okay, I'm not real pleased with the pattern.
I wanted the apron to wrap around more, and not be so long--it's just not what I had in mind.  Of course you never know about a pattern until you make it for the first time.  This one needs adjustments made to it.
You can't really tell from looking at the pattern front about these potential problems.  I had to make adjustments to the pattern piece of the body of the apron.  If you look real close, the piece extends past the edge of the material.

I had to put a pleat in the pattern to get it to fit on the material, as you can see below.
I need to make a note of this on the front of the pattern envelope for future reference.  It might have fit on some other fabric--this fabric just happened not to be wide enough.

You can also see I had to piece the apron's ties.
I made a card for our daughter's birthday.

Here she is wearing the apron, and she liked it, but I am going to make another one anyway--I have it cut out, and I've made this one before, so I know it will be more to my liking.  She likes this one just fine, but it wasn't what I had in mind.
It was a combination birthday party for our daughter and her son--our seven year old grandson.  His older sisters made the Lego cake for him, and we went together with another daughter, and got him remote control trucks that shoot lasers at each other--that was a big hit, as was the box.  They put their barky little dog inside the box, and he could see out through the cellophane and mostly just sat inside the box and looked out.  He didn't seem to mind either--it was pretty funny to see him just setting their before they let him out.
I liked the cake--so cute.

Brit's Bridesmaid's Dress

I finished my granddaughter's bridesmaid dress--Taa-Daa!

This is the pattern I used.  I think it turned out real nice, although I had a real hard time with the zipper.

Because the material was a little stretchy, it wanted to pucker when I was putting in the zipper, so the seam ripper was my best friend.  I actually sharpened it because this material snags real easy, and I sure didn't want to snag it.

Below is the back side.  It will look much better with my beautiful granddaughter in it.

Note to Brit:  I want a picture of you in your dress please since I am mailing it to you, and I won't get to see you in it.  Okay?  Love You!

Garden of the Senses

While we were at the Zoo we went to the Garden of the Senses.  There were lots of flowers and water features along the paths--just lovely.

Here's the whole crew that went to the Zoo.  I actually had to combine two pictures for this shot to get everyone in.  You can see the line by my picture where I put me in the picture.  There are a few of us with funny looks on our faces.  I know my doggies were barkin', but I'm not sure what was going on with my oldest daughter and her hubby.
They actually had quite a few brass sculptures--I liked this turtle.
So did our grandson, Cole--he's such a clown.
Clowning with his dad here, too.

And here with his brother and grandpa.

My niece had a little boy last week so I made her a quick tote for a couple of diapers and some wipes.  Those are pretty handy--I made one for my daughter and she uses it all the time.  Sometimes you just don't want to take the whole diaper bag in with you.
It has a handle on the back side.
More Zoo pictures to come next time.

Sewing Again and Birthday Girls

I've sewn another bag.  I recently bought a purse pattern that I have been wanting for a long time, the Prairie Rose  by Fig Tree and Co.  I think if I make it again I will put batting in the flap and quilt it also, and maybe add some tabs on the inside for a magnetic closure.  I would kind of like to make it in a red print and also make the front of the bag a couple of inches less wide.  It is gathered on the front at the top, but I don't want it so bulky in the front.  I have to mess with it too much to get the flap to lay right.  I do like the looks of it though--It's very girly.
A row of piping around the edge of the flap before adding the scalloped ruffle in a contrasting color would be nice also.
The flap seems a little long, too.  I think I'm a perfectionist just looking for the perfect purse.
I linked up with amylouwho's sew and tell.  Go check it out.  There's another linky party at The Shabby Nest--tons of stuff.

We went to our middle daughter's home for our  youngest granddaughters' B-day party.
Evie is three now.  The party started with a wiener roast.  Yum! I indulged with a bun--I'm on a diet.  It sure was good.
Our little Sophie will be one later on this month.  She's in the swing with mommy--her best friend.  Her eyes just light up when sees her mommy walk into the room.
Evie got some new PJ's and wanted to wear them-cute.  I think Isaiah's head is getting warm while he's roasting his hot dog.  Chili is hoping for some crumbs to fall.
Madison reminds me of myself when I was her age--always active.
Grace recently had her B-day also--she's the red-headed-Sweetie.
Dad needs a picture for his cell phone.  Don't you just love the flags in the window?  Celeste made them.  Such a cute idea.

Memorial Day and Weekend

Wow, what a busy week.  Erin is modeling the apron I made from a panel I got from Walmart for $9.  I made it one afternoon last week.  It turned out rather cute, I think--especially with Erin modeling it.  Our weekend was very enjoyable.  We had a Wiener Roast in our back yard.  Erin brought the Chips and Marshmallows, and my sister, Donna brought Chili, Apple Pie, and Ice cream--Yum!
Notice the wood pile from the Ice Storm I talked about in my last post.  We used some of the wood to roast our wieners with.  Also take a look at the clothes line pole--The neighbor's tree fell on it in the storm.  It took a pretty good wallop.
Here I am modeling the apron--Erin's a better model---Should have gotten Donna to model it too.

We also went to decorate our parents headstone.  You never outgrow your parents love; they were such good parents.  I miss them.
(I sure am getting grey headed-Yikes!)
This is me, Jerri, our daughter, Erin is next, then my baby sister, Donna, and brother Dan.  My sister Alice was out of town, and our two middle siblings are no longer with us--we miss them greatly also.
We also had to get our feet wet.  That's just part of our tradition.  My hubby took the pictures--Ain't he sweet?!
