Nesting Time Again

When I hang a fern on my front porch, the house finches always build a nest in it.  It took them two days to build this nest, and they have been laying an egg per day since.

This is day three of egg laying.  Last time they laid 5 eggs.  They probably aren't done yet.

I de-weeded the walk in front of the porch this morning so that interrupted their tending the nest for a little while.
They always come back to the nest.

It looks better now.  My daffodils are almost done blooming.  Maybe tomorrow I can plant some annuals in the flower bed.

Spring Flowers

Sunday, Erin, Hubby, and I did our flower shopping.  Our daughter bought the impatiens, and I bought the ferns, and flowers in the back.  It was a busy day, because Hubby was installing a new kitchen faucet.  Sunday morning I was rotating the faucet and it came off in my hand--not good.  After church and lunch we got a new faucet, then flowers--Yeah!!

Here are my flowers, and herbs.  Monday morning I worked on the poison ivy again.  It is quite a process.
I'm digging down only 6 inches to get the roots I can, so this summer I'll have to stay on top of it making sure it doesn't come back.

You want to see what poison ivy does to my leather gloves......
...and that's after I laundered them.  No wonder my hubby breaks out.

Poison Ivy--eeek!

I love these tulips.  I've had them for about 10 years, which I don't understand.  Any other tulips I've ever planted only lasted a few years.  I just love the color of these, although the camera doesn't do them justice.

After I mowed the lawn this morning I decided to cut down the poison ivy vine that grew behind the out building in the picture.  It was just starting to bud out on the tips of all the vines.  It just got way out of hand last year, and my hubby is extremely allergic to it, so it is my job.  I used to pull it up with my bare hands with no problem, but who knows when I might become allergic to it so I wore gloves.
I have to cut it up and bag it tomorrow so hubby doesn't break out with a horrible rash.  Sometimes he has to get a shot it gets so bad.  That is nasty stuff.  I still have more to go, but that is all of the big stuff.  I got real tired because I missed a meal--I really shouldn't do that, because it sets off my blood sugar problems.

Zucchini Lasagna

I made some low-carb lasagna and it turned out pretty good.  I just substituted sliced zucchini rounds for the noodles.

It has layers of four things.  First layer was uncooked zucchini slices in the bottom of a sprayed baking dish.  Next layer was spaghetti sauce mixed with browned ground beef and one large sweated onion, chopped.  The third layer was cottage cheese mixed with two raw eggs. The last layer was shredded mozzarella cheese.  I repeated the layers, then baked it for about 50 minutes in a 350 degree oven.  It was yum-o as Rachael would say.

We have a weird robin that keeps trying to fly through the glass patio door.  It's been doing this for the last several days  off and on all day long.  He flys up and down the glass trying to penetrate the glass for about 5 minutes, flys away, then comes back about 5 minutes later, and sometimes 30 minutes later.  I think this bird is wacked out of his mind.  Maybe he got ahold of someone's meds and can't figure things out.  I scare him off, but he always comes back.  I've thought about taping strings to the back door just to see what would happen. Gooney Bird!!

Beaned My Bean

It's been raining here, thankfully!  We need it.  My daffodils are starting to bloom.

I have been so excited to work in the yard this year.  Monday, I removed two bushes that had overgrown near my flower bed, and in the process I accidently hit myself in the head while I was vigorously try to remove the stump with an axe-hammer.  It hurt, but now I'm wondering if I did more than get a lump on the head.  I still can't sleep on that side of my head--it's pretty sore.
Wow--only me.

YARD WORK

We had a busy day yesterday.  First, we did our taxes, then my hubby cut down and ground up the pampas grass.  I cleaned out the pond, and boy was it a mess.  We lost one fish over the winter,  but he wasn't looking too good back in the fall.  That leaves us with one large goldfish in our little pond.

I also did something I've been wanting to do for a long time.  I mowed the lawn with the push mower.

That's something I haven't been able to do since I messed up my ankles a year ago.  So excited.  I have big plans to work in the yard this year.  I hope we don't have another drought.  Our lawn is pretty weedy since the drought last year because some of our grass died.  This pic shows our grass that didn't die.

I'M BACK, Maybe

Well, well, well.  I think my blog is going to let me post----Yeah!!!!  I just grabbed an old pic to see if it might happen.  I hope I can keep doing it.
