Holiday Fun

Well, I haven't posted in a while.
This pic is from our Christmas Eve Candlelight service.  Two of our kids and their families were with us.  I'm always glad to get a group shot.

We had Christmas at our daughter's home.  Twenty-five at a sit down dinner.  Had lots of fun.

Now, here it is New Years Day, and I have a stinking cold -ick!   NOT FUN!

Spring's A Comin'

It's a beautiful day here suppose to get in the seventies--so nice.  Hubby is trying to make it rain, ha-ha!
We got our pick-up worked on, so yesterday he tried to power wash all the oil spots off of the driveway.  The truck was leaking oil a lot and messed up our driveway, but never fear, hubby will take care of it. He loves to clean.

It's so nice to have a break in the winter weather.  We just recently got rid of our last snow.  I love the snow, but I also love warmer weather, and I'm ready for a change.  Spring is almost here..

Frigid Weather

Frigid Weather here; we're in the deep freeze.   It's up to -5 this morning from -8 earlier this morning with horrible wind chills.  We have a forecast of 2 degrees for the high today.

(I know my patio door is smeared--we had some little munchkins over New Years Day to eat.)

This is yesterday at noon when it was snowing.  All the churches were canceled, so we went to my sister and brother-in-law's house to play cards and eat soup.  I shivered all the way home--the car just wouldn't warm up much.

It drifted quite a bit with the winds we were having.
We are suppose to get a new dryer delivered today--the coldest day of the year (at least I hope it is the coldest day).

Saturday Night we went to our grand son's B-day party.  I love the bear hugs he gives.  Our daughter made that cute cake.  It had a center layer of brownies. I'm sure it was delicious--I'm on a diet, yuck!

Winter Wonderland

It's not even winter yet and look at this.

Pretty amazing, and I love it most of the time.

There's a pick-up under there.  Hubby's got the wipers up so they don't get stuck.  We've been using our other vehicle that's in the garage.  Winter and retirement work pretty well together.
We just hibernate.

Our daughter finished the cabinet we made her.  She did a nice job.
I like the looks of this, but I can't decide if I want the inconvenience of opening the door every time I want to use it.  I mostly just pitch my trash from a distance.  I'm a little bit uncivilized.

Cicada Pouch

I've made another project off of pinterest.  It's called a Cicada Pouch--cute as a bug in a rug.

I think I'll store a sewing kit in there.  The little meds holder has pins, needles and two bobbins of thread....that with a pair of small scissors will take care of it.

And guess what...we're having snow today--Yea!

What's winter without snow?  I was afraid were weren't going to get any for a while.  It won't last long though, because tomorrow it's suppose to warm up somewhat.

BRRRR!

Baby it COLD outside!
We've had a pretty mild winter so far, but the temps just took a dip, and tonight it's suppose to get down to 5 degrees---BRRRR  RR!

I'm starting a cute project here--it will be a small coin purse.
I will show some pics when it is finished.
It's nice to be feeling well again, and doing things--WA-HOO!  Nothing like being sick to make you appreciate feeling good.  I take so much for granted.

Winter Colds--Blech!

Our daughter made me some detergent.  She got the recipe off of pinterest.  I am waiting to use it until all my other box is used up.  I plan to clean up my Laundry room to make it all pretty.

On another note, it's been three and a half years since I've had a head cold---I have one now, and here's what my sick station looks like:
I am using a hot water bottle to keep the chills at bay, along with a quilt.  I have been running a low grade fever for three days.  I've gone through one large box of tissues, a lot of hot tea, water, and I'm keeping coconut oil on my lips and nose to keep them soft and not irritated.

My hubby made me breakfast this morning--Ain't he sweet?  Erin gave us a mold for cooking eggs, or pancakes.  How cute is that?!
So far I have not needed to take anything for my fever.  I believe a low grade fever helps kill the virus.  God designed our bodies to heal themselves, if we don't intervene too much.  In the meantime I feel pretty yucky.

I'm ready for winter to be over, but we still have about 6 weeks left.

Trip to Iowa and Back

Here are some of the scenery pics I took on our trip last week:
Lots of farm land.

The pic below is a frozen river or lake in Nebraska.

This picture below is of the Missouri River with chunks of ice all over it.  I think this one was in Omaha, Nebraska.

The silos below are in Omaha with things painted on the different ones.

When we were ready to leave there was a little snow on everything.  This is their back yard with our grand daughters car and ours.

On the trip home, in Northern Missouri we saw a ton of geese.  From horizon to horizon they were flying in v-formation.  I have never seen so many geese at one time.  It was quite a sight.

Snow and Apple Cores

A cold front moved in last night and brought us a skiff of snow.
My poinsettia is still looking good and cheery--(that's why my hubby bought it back in December).  He wanted more color around here, and now we have color.

On another note, I'm finished piecing my never-ending-apple-cores,  Yeah!  I just need to join the last two big sections together, which won't take long.

This is a long, and pretty wide table runner.  Next I will iron it, and then baste it to batting and backing to get it ready for quilting on the machine.

I see some cores I would like to move, but they are staying where they are.  Period.  You don't really notice it except in a picture--Why is that?
I have enough pieces left for a flag wall quilt, and something else small--Wow, they are never-ending!

A BLESSED DAY

We had a very nice time together with our Missouri kids and grand kids.  It's such a joyous time getting together with family.
Saturday I cooked, sewed, and cleaned. I forgot to take pictures of the gifts I sewed, and now it's too late.  I also made three pies. Sunday morning before church I set the table while my hubby peeled potatoes. I put a couple of roasts on to cook while we were at church.  My sister and I sang a duet at church.  I'm 61 and I still get nervous singing for an audience; you would think by now I would get over that---I've been singing with my family since a was a little girl.
After church we finished cooking, and enjoyed our family.  I took the picture below so I'm not in it--which is just fine.

We had roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, a veggie tray, sweet potato casserole, rolls, cup cakes, cherry pie, pumpkin pie and whipped cream--Yum!

First Snowfall

Our first snowfall accumulation--looks about like an inch with a possibility of more before noon.
It's suppose to stay below freezing today, tonight, and possibly tomorrow too.  My hubby just called from work and said it's real slick out, and a lot of traffic is backed up.

Not much happening around here.  I'm on row 28 of my applecores.  I've been working on it a little hit-and-miss.   I've also been visiting my Bro-in-law in the hospital occasionally and sister who is setting up there with him.  His chemo and radiation starts today--pray for them.

Snow, Snow, Snow

I can't believe it, we got more snow--looks like about 3 inches.  I may actually get my fill of snow this winter.  It's been several years since we've received this much snow.  When my hubby and I were first married back in 1970, we received 24" of snow in the town we lived in.  My hubby worked at the hospital and couldn't get to it--that broke my heart.  I was glad he wasn't stuck at the hospital when it snowed.  I wouldn't have enjoyed the snow at all.

It's a lovely sunrise this morning.   Thank you, Lord--Isn't He a marvelous creator?  The stunning beauty He created is so awesome--Its hard to comprehend the marvel of it all, it just blows me away.
Something else I enjoy is our aquariums.  It's hard to get a good picture of the fish--they wiggle too much.
The Baja Sharks, and the Clown Loaches I will never get a good picture of they're too busy--you can see the Dwarf Gorami, and our big old black Angel Fish though.
Something else I want to show you is our huge house plant that turned into a small tree over the years.
I doesn't look so huge here, but it takes up a good portion of this small bedroom.  Once it warms up, it's going outside.

Digging Out

Storm's over; now it's time to dig out.
I love fresh snowfalls.
I'm not sure how much we got; it's kind of hard to tell with all the drifting.  I would guess about 9 inches, but I think they are saying 12 inches.

I only shoveled enough to get out of the garage--our SUV is kind of tall, and the antenna always hits the door anyway.  My hubby asked me to shovel a few feet in front of the garage and the front porch, so I did.  I also put a salt sand mixture at the base where the garage door closes down.  We've had times when we couldn't get the door open, because it was frozen to the floor.
Now we need to brace ourselves for the cold.  It's suppose to get down to -10 degrees tonight, and
tomorrow through tomorrow night aren't much better.

I still love this part of winter.  Fresh snowfalls are so beautiful.
